The very successful ORCA 3D has been updated with a new fin, much thinner and less volume than the
original. This has reduced the displacement of the yacht by a lb., to 22 1/2, the ballast to 17
lbs., and the sail area to 1450 sq.in. The hull remains the same, at 58 1/2" LOA, 45" LWL, 12 1/2"
beam, and 10 1/2" draft. The changes have had a significant effect on boat speed. All performance
factors have increased, and the performance has been improved across the entire range of wind speeds.
The second suit still measures in as a 10 Rater, and the boat has proven quick in light airs in that
class as well. Although designed primarily as a light weather "A" Class, the ORCA 3D has proven
itself well in heavier winds with the appropriate sails. It is capable of planing in winds of
approximately 12 mph. It is only available as a Kevlar Kit, complete with the DELTA-BULB keel,
which it made famous.![]() If you have any questions, please email me at: rcsail@ca.inter.net |
