Nickel Metal Hydride Batteries

From time to time I receive information articles on various items that can be used for model yachting. I recently obtained one of these articles on nickel metal hydride batteries and chargers and thought it might be of some interest to pass it on. Nickel metal hydride batteries (NiMH) have been only around for just a year or so, so information is still new to consumers.

What I find interesting about the NiMH batteries from APak Batteries is the capability of charging NiMH batteries using an automotive cigarette lighter adapter. This allows the charging or the keeping a charge of NiMH batteries at the pond. To some skippers this may be of some interest.

The NiMH battery has no memory effect unlike the common Ni-Cd that we are used to. The NiMH battery charger from APak claims the charger senses when the battery is at full charge and automatically switches to a float mode to keep the battery at full charge. The charger also informs of the battery's condition by using a three color LED.

If this is of interest to you, you can find out more information from APak. The price for a basic system (charger, power supply and cigarette connector) is a little high $149.95. To contact APak you can call, write, or use the Internet.
